While stark white looks great in modern spaces, often a softer color is desirable for an elegant room. If that is the case for you, choose something with a hint of grey or yellow. I recommend staying away from anything too darkly beige — you will lose the airy open feeling. This color is Barren Plain 2111-60 by Benjamin Moore. Notice the contrasting decor elements: the black stripe on the curtains, purple couch, black frames and dark floors.
The room below is traditional, but a clever combination of colorful accents and artistic flourishes make the space truly interesting. A pink striped rug, large botanical artwork and elephant side tables are three of the eye-catching selections that call attention to the decor itself, rather than the limited space.
I say this because when I think of a purple room, immediately a teenage girls dare ye enter bedroom comes to mind. In it she has zebra bedding, with plush fuzzy purple pillows and synthetic purple curtains that have never been opened bid enter to the light of day. Bright purple strings of purple hand in place of closet doors and yes, a lava lamp-remember those fire hazards- decorates her cluttered dresser. But now, when I think of a purple room, there is an air of sophisticated glamour that wipes out the memory of the tacky zebralicious room.
It’s amazing how much seating can fit into a tight space! However, interesting accents such as patterned pillows, a bold throw and captivating artwork steal the show, jazzing up the crisp white sofas and bench. Again, the eye is drawn to the details rather than the close quarters.
