Whether your kitchen is a true fixer-upper from decades ago or your once-trendy laminate countertop and linoleum flooring fell out of style fast, it may be time to modernize your outdated kitchen. With new design trends showcasing creative uses of colors, modern appliances, and functional design, there are endless ways to bring your kitchen into the present day.
A good general rule for enclosed kitchens is to place it in the center of the room. That way it's equally accessible from all sides and won't be an obstacle for people walking through. That placement might not work best for all kitchens, however. A perimeter island, for example, might work better with open floor plans. Size and shape are also determined by room's layout; Allow for at least 36-48 inches between the perimeter of the island and the surrounding cabinets so there's enough room for people to move around.
Others abhor the open option; I've heard their concern about grease, bugs, and worse of all, clutter. Are these cons worthy of consideration? Yes. Are they deal breakers for the open shelving design trend? Absolutely not.
In the kitchen, gray is best shown in larger features rather than small accessories. One of the best ways to infuse gray into the kitchen is to replace or paint your cabinets. For smaller spaces, try a medium to pale gray (sometime called a French gray).
